Churro Swirls

We’re pretty sure that this treat takes donuts to a whole other level- “fair food” at home. Could there be anything better? LOL, no crowds, no lineups, no gluten…just a churro from your own kitchen! Often seen in amusement parks as long ‘sticks’, we developed our gluten-free version as a swirl.

Now, of course we couldn’t leave the churro with just cinnamon sugar but we also tried it dipped in our chocolate ganache. It was incredible. If you love chocolate, these chocolate churro’s will win you over to the sweet side for sure.

The batter is literally the exact same recipe as our Donuts. The only different is that a churro swirl is definitely going to be fried. These churro’s are deep fried at home in oil, or you can absolutely do this in an air fryer for a healthier version. We played around with the Pampered Chef air fryer and it worked amazing for this recipe. We’ll show you pictures of both the air fryer and home deep frying to help you bake this incredible treat. It’ll be hard to keep little fingers away from just one donut! They’re just so amazing.

The hardest part of this recipe is going to be to keep your oil at the right temperature if you are deep frying. No lies, it’s a bit tricky. If you’re using an actual oil fryer it’s a bit easier but if you’re straight up in a pan, you’ll definitely want to invest in a candy thermometer to help. Your oil needs to be at a consistent 360°F-375°F the entire time frying or your donut will burn or not be fully cooked. Once your batter is made, fill up an icing bag. You’ll then literally squeeze the batter directly into oil and let the deep frying begin!

Ensure your oil is covering at least half of the donut’s height. When you can see the bottom in oil starting to brown, go ahead and flip the donut to finish cooking. We found this process to take approximately 3-4 minutes per side.

When they’re finished cooking, go ahead and remove the donuts from the oil and set on a cooling rack covered in paper towel to absorb any excess oil. It’s time to then dip in the cinnamon sugar mixture 🙂

We can’t forget though the Air Fryer! As traditional as a deep fried churro is, an air fried churro might be almost better! It tastes the same, it’s prepared the same and we guarantee the calories and the mess is less. Although, don’t forget you’re still eating a donut! Indulge a little…

We have spent some time in our kitchen the last little while testing the Pampered Chef Air Fryer. It has just come out for sale March 1 and we loved it! Our gluten-free donuts turned out fabulous. Using the same batter as we always do, https://cutcooking.com/donuts/ , we filled an icing bag and piped doughy swirls onto parchment lined baking sheets for the fryer.

Cooking 5 minutes per side, flipping in between, we had homemade churro’s from the air fryer within 10 minutes! They were thoroughly cooked, we didn’t have to worry about the oil temp and obviously the health benefits of not cooking with oil are incredible. We were pumped. This definitely was a win for the churro!

Due to the fact the air fryer doesn’t use any oil to cook it’s goods, the donuts needed to be painted with melted butter before sprinkling the cinnamon sugar on them. This was an easy step and took very little time. In the end, we preferred the end result of the air fried churro! Definitely take a look at the Pampered Chef Air Fryer for the win in your kitchen.
