Cowtown Ribs

Ribs so tender they literally fall off the bone. Honestly, no need to set knives for this dinner, but be sure to have extra napkins handy. This recipe is mouthwatering and so incredible. We love it for when company is coming or when you need an easy prep meal. Yes, that’s right….an easy meal! Who would have thought?! Ribs?

Living in YYC, the BBQ is very much part of Calgary’s culture. Whether it’s beef, chicken, pork, veggies…it all goes in terms of the grill. These ribs begin in the oven and then the last final 5 minutes of grilling sets them apart. It honestly makes them perfect!

We promised this was an easy recipe and prep, and they really are. In fact these ribs work well to even the day before. The perfect meal for a busier day, especially when you’re around the house to just get them into the oven. Go ahead- spice them, sauce them, and wrap them in the aluminum foil the night before. Leave the ribs in the fridge over night. The next day then while working and managing ‘homeschool’, just pop them into the oven and forget about supper for a few hours.

We love to make this recipe for when company visits. With social distancing and home quarantine during these recent days not many people are coming over 😉 However, hopefully ‘normal’ will return. These ribs are a great option to serve for guests. While they’re baking, go ahead and prepare your side dishes or maybe a dessert. You’ll find more time to be with your company and not in the kitchen cooking! We’ve also found it’s a fun meal with children as everyone gets their hands a bit messy…

Something we’d like to mention as you seek out your BBQ sauce and spices for this recipe is to ensure that they’re gluten-free. If you are gluten-free by choice, or due to celiac disease, these are both common ingredients within your kitchen where gluten likes to hide. Always read labels on these products and look for the addition of wheat, or the term ‘spices’ or smoke. Often they “may contain” gluten and you’ll need to use other products. Gluten-free spices and BBQ sauce aren’t hard to find within your local grocery store but do require usually just an extra ‘look’. Find your favorites and stick with them!

Enjoy. Happy grilling.
