Cran Gin Fizz

It’s the holidays and a special bevy is an order. Not to mention that in Alberta, we’re all heading into “lock down” mode again. Celebrating only with our immediate families and those very closest to us is what Christmas 2020 is about. Let’s get mixing a Christmas classic at home…

We are so excited to bring you this last recipe on our 12 days of Christmas! It seemed so fitting to end the last 12 days of holiday fun with a “cheers” to our incredible local YYC companies.

The basis of our Cran Gin Fizz centers around an amazing winter spirit; crafted right here in Alberta. Pour a glass and relish in the richness of the spirit of Christmas. Make a Cran Gin Fizz and may you find a quiet peace amidst these crazy days this season. If you haven’t heard of Eau Claire Distillery, you’re in for quite a treat!

“They just released their annual holiday release, Christmas Gin with an all new look and 23 karat gold flakes! With every pour, your glass will sparkle. The seasonal release signifies Eau Claire’s holiday spirit. Complete with Frankincense and Myrrh, the Christmas Gin has been a staple in many holiday parties…”

“The inspiration for Christmas Gin is derived from the story of the three wise men. The three wise men travelled far and wide to give the gift of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh to the newborn king. Worth their weight in gold, Frankincense and Myrrh have a long history dating back thousands of years and were once considered to have effective medicinal properties. Eau Claire’s Master Distiller, Caitlin Quinn, decided to combine typical gin botanicals like juniper and coriander with frankincense and myrrh. With these unique botanicals you experience the unique fragrance of Frankincense resin – the milky sap of the Boswellia tree, exuding an almost balsamic, lemony aroma, and the rich mouth-feel provided by the Myrrh resin to create a long, floral finish.”

Christmas Gin was my first recipe after joining Eau Claire Distillery in 2015. It has been exciting to see the product evolve over the years to now include edible gold flakes and presented in a beautiful shareworthy printed bottle.” says Eau Claire Distillery’s Master Distiller, Caitlin Quinn.”

“The recent inclusion of 23K edible gold creates a wintry snow globe effect in the bottle and a sparkling cocktail once mixed. When you peer through the Christmas wreath at the front of the bottle you will see the Christmas Gin label features Eau Claire’s trademark social animal characters, depicted as the Three Wise Men looking at the Northern Star, albeit in a Canadian setting surrounded by mountains and Canadian spruce.”

Eau Claire Distillery presents you with a gift fit for a king, the exclusive Christmas Gin – a tradition created right here at home. For gin lovers, Christmas Gin promises to deliver all the holiday cheer.”

Let’s open a bottle of Christmas Gin and toast the holidays with a Cran Gin Fizz!

We have developed this recipe with a slight twist and used ginger beer, bitters and cranberry juice. It’s an easy cocktail and can be mixed within minutes. Here’s to the weekend!

First mix the ginger beer and Eau Claire Distillery Christmas gin in your drinking glass. In a separate glass; combine the cranberry juice, bitters and grenadine.

It’s Christmas and Christmas gin was created with a king in mind! Time to take the ‘home bartending’ up a level. LOL…lets practice making a layered drink! If you can’t get it to layer right away, we’re positive by January you’ll have it;)

Pour the cranberry mix over the back of a spoon, and down the inside edge of your glass. You should immediately start seeing the 2 layers begin to appear as you pour. It will continue to settle after a couple minutes.

If the layers begin mixing; try pouring slower. While pouring, ensure the cranberry mix is also covering the back of the spoon, and then running down the inside edge of the glass.

If they mix, that’s ok! Try again…Lol, it will still taste amazing and the gold flecks from the gin look incredible when stirred 😉

Top with fresh sprigs of rosemary and cranberry ice. Put your feet up and celebrate the season! Merry Christmas from Eau Claire Distillery and CUT Cooking!

A holiday classic with a twist! Ginger beer, cranberry juice and Eau Claire Distillery Christmas Gin, make this cocktail extra special! The addition of edible gold flakes creates a sip that will always be memorable. Cheers to Christmas and holiday traditions!

Ingredients

  • 3 oz. ginger beer (most ginger beer is gluten-free, but we always suggest reading the labels on everything if you are unsure)

  • 1 oz. Eau Claire Distillery Christmas Gin

  • 1 oz. cranberry juice

  • 1 oz. grenadine

  • 20 drops bitters

Directions

  • Combining ginger beer and Eau Claire Distillery Christmas Gin in drinking glass.
  • Mix in separate glass cranberry juice, grenadine, and bitters.
  • Using the back end of a spoon, pour cranberry mix slowly over the spoon and to the inside edge of your glass. This should create a “layered” look for serving your Cran Gin Fizz.
  • If the two layers mix, try pouring more slowly and ensure that the cranberry mix is first running down the edge of the glass and then combining with the ginger beer and Gin. Don’t stress it… You’ll get it!!
  • Either way, mixed or layered, this bevy is extra special and perfect for mixing at home! Wishing health to everyone. Cheers,
    Stacey and Meg
