Hot Cran-Apple Cider

We need to begin this post by hoping you all had a very Merry Christmas!! Truly not just words in print on a screen but we sincerely wish you and yours a peaceful season full of laughter for you and your families. We hope that these words have found you pausing; reflecting on what’s important around us. This season is such a special time for our own individual families. Celebrating traditions within our homes, old and new; and we look forward to discovering new ones each season. Boxing day, one of the busiest retail days during the entire year – we hope you can still find a calm among the chaos!

Apple cider is one of our favourite Christmas treats for both of our families. There’s something about this tradition that we both find comfort in. Not to mention, it’s a drink that the entire family can enjoy together.

Traditional apple cider is a drink that doesn’t have enough credit during the fall… Its rust yellow colour, stirred with cinnamon and cloves serves to warm whoever discovers its sweet taste. We love this version and have vowed to drink a lot more next year when the leaves begin to fall.

Although for now, we have decided to take this traditional apple drink and add cranberry. It cuts the sweet a bit and changes its colour from the fall rust to a seasonal red cup of joy. It’s such a great combination! Not to mention that the extra added vitamin C is always a great addition this time of year. Our families love this new found traditional drink!

It couldn’t be easier to make and serves so pretty when poured. We used a slow cooker to mix the ingredients so they could simmer all day. You can just keep pouring without having to worry about it boiling over. This way, everyone can help themselves easier too:)

Add your ingredients, set to simmer…you’re finished! That’s it. We used a tea ball to float the mulling spices, although you can also use a tea filter bag and fill. Whatever is easiest! We’re here to help simplify your life with incredible food!

A seasonal spin on a traditional drink. We love the rust coloured apple drink that begins to warm during the fall. This is a twist on an already incredible bevy! It’s less sweet, full of added vitamin C, and coloured red with the addition of cranberries. Perfect for Christmas holidays!

Ingredients

  • 2 litres apple juice

  • 1 litre cranberry juice

  • 4 cinnamon sticks

  • 4 whole cloves

  • 4 whole allspice

  • 3 star of anise

  • 1 orange

  • 1/2 cup cranberries

Directions

  • Add juices into slow cooker.
  • Combine spices into either tea ball or tea filter, using 3 broken cinnamon sticks. Float in slow cooker.
  • Add whole cranberries, 3 cinnamon sticks and a sliced orange into crock pot.
  • Set slow cooker to simmer. Let cider simmer approximately an hour at least before drinking. You can leave this all day on simmer or on warm setting if you’d like.

  • Happy Holidays, Stacey and Meg

Let the simmering begin! We promise the smell of mulling spices, apples, and cranberries will bring anyone to a pause this busy season. Cheers!
