Pavlova

Reminiscent from a time Stacey lived down under in Auz, we had to share with you one of both our families very favorite desserts. If you’ve never had Pavlova, you’re in for an absolute treat! A simple meringue shell, topped with whipped cream and generally fruit, this dessert is absolutely divine. We’re sure you’ll agree.

What’s so incredible about this dessert is how easy it is to make and yet how gourmet it serves. It’s also such a great option to serve to guests as you can appeal to most tastebuds. The sweet, the tarty, the crunchy and the smooth. Pavlova checks all the boxes.

With only 4 ingredients involved, and taking minutes to literally have in the oven, the hardest part will be separating the egg whites from the yolks!…There’s a lot of eggs!

Success! All the egg whites made it into the mixer and all the other ingredients added, it’s time to let the mixer do it’s magic. You’ll need to let these ingredients combine for approximately 10 minutes before spreading the shell and into the oven. The egg whites will become stiff and ‘peaks’ will form. This is when you know your pavlova is ready to bake.

After you’re mixer has completed it’s work, transfer the egg white mixture to baking paper lined baking sheets. You can make these shells as large as you want! Create a giant ‘pie’ or individual pavlova. The options now become endless and the toppings infinite.

The trick to a great pavlova and meringue is patience and a low, slow oven. Even the cooling period, we will leave the shell in the oven to cool with the door slightly ajar. You can even make this crust the day before and simply top before you’re ready to serve. It’s the perfect dessert for dinner guests!

Here we go! Let’s make the whipping cream and get topping.

Have fun with different fruit combo’s. There are SO many endless ideas. We kept it simple but feel free to trial as many fruits together as you’d like. You could also try adding a carmel or chocolate sauce. ( Our chocolate ganache works super! https://cutcooking.com/chocolate-ganache/ )

This incredible dessert will win over every taste bud. Comprised of a meringue shell base, topped with whipping cream and generally fruit; it’s simplicity serves up absolutely gourmet.

Ingredients

  • 10 egg whites

  • 2 cups sugar

  • 1/4 cup vinegar

  • 1 1/2 tbsp vanilla

  • Toppings
  • whipping cream

  • fresh fruit, whatever combination you desire

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 250°F.
  • Separate egg whites from yolks. Combine all egg whites into mixer bowl. Whip on medium speed.
  • Add sugar and continue to beat turning mixer to high speed.
  • Add vinegar and vanilla and continue to beat on high speed approximately 10 minutes until stiff peaks form.
  • Spread on lined parchment papered baking sheet whatever desired size of pavlova. A large shell or individual sizes.
  • Bake in slow oven for approximately 1 hour. A careful check of the paper being able to pull easily on the edge of the meringue means it’s baked.
  • Turn off oven and allow pavlova to cool within the oven for at least a couple hours with the oven door slightly open. This will help meringue to not be sticky.
  • Remove from oven and top with whipping cream and you’re favorite fruit.
  • We hope it becomes a favorite just like it is ours, Stacey and Meg
