Pepperoni is one of the most loved deli meats of all ages. Found on pizzas, mixed as dips, shared along pasta, topped on salad, packed in lunches, hidden in purses…we decided to bake ours and have made a chip! Dipped in our Sweet Dijon, we’re pretty sure you’ll be stock piling the pepperoni too.
We know what you’re thinking to yourself…really? A chip? Definitely. These Italian chips are the perfect combo to our Sweet Dijon. Although a hint to get started, use pepperoni that you can slice on your own. Creating the ability to gauge how thick YOU want your chips. We tried baking thinly sliced pepperoni and it got too crispy. You need to start with a little thicker slice! Then simply lay the pepperoni on a baking sheet and bake at 425°F. Bake for 10 minutes, then flip each chip and bake again for another 5 min. When finished, transfer to a plate with paper towel and blot any excess grease.
Also watch that your pepperoni is gluten-free. There are many fillers, and grains used in processing this favorite Italian treat. Gluten-free pepperoni absolutely exists and isn’t hard to find. Remember to read labels! If cross contamination factors are a concern, ensure that if you are buying gluten-free processed meats from a deli counter; the cutting blades and surfaces in which your product is being packaged, have been thoroughly cleaned. There are many risks of cross-contamination factors to weigh. We recommend purchasing manufactured sealed processed meat products for this reason.
Back to the Sweet Dijon! Comprised of lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, garlic, dijon mustard and honey, this sauce is just the right balance of sweet and tangy. Prepared stovetop, this Sweet Dijon is ready in minutes.
Combining all ingredients in a small saucepan on low heat, make sure everything is well mixed. Next take 2 tbsp of cold water and add 2 tsp corn starch in a small container. Either shake or stir well to ensure completely combined with no lumps of cornstarch. This cornstarch mixture will seem very thick and milky. Add this to the saucepan and stir. Within only a few minutes, the sauce will be thick and ready for dipping! Be sure to bring the sauce to a rapid boil, and let it boil for approximately 2 min before turning the heat right low or even off.
This dip is perfect for sharing with company, adding to a meal board or devouring on your own. Next movie night, try a little something different than the normal bag of popcorn or chips…
